Kobus Walker Bio

David Griessel Bio

Kobus was born in Rustenburg in 1971 and completed his Fine Arts diploma in 1992 at the Pretoria Technikon. He thereafter worked with fellow artist and mentor Tivan van Dyck for almost 10 years. They worked on a series of projects, including murals in London, Egypt and Caesars Casino.

Kobus is now based in Pretoria and has been working as a full-time artist since 2007. His work and very distinctive style is created by taking the influences of South African landscape artists Pierneef and Tretchikoff and remoulding them to his own indigenous statement in a contemporary context.

His signature medium is created by applying thin layers of oil paint onto wood. The use of earthy colours and stipple technique shows the influence of Neo-Impressionism, where the use of small dashes of paint refers to pointillism.
